Sellers should never cancel their service, but should notify NIPSCO of when they will be moving. The buyer also needs to contact NIPSCO to give them personal information and the date of possession. NIPSCO will coordinate any final meter readings and make billing adjustments.
AMERITECH

Ameritech provides local phone service throughout the Northwest Indiana area. Sellers and buyers will need to contact them to provide notification of changes.

MICHIGAN CITY WATER DEPARMENT

If you are selling or buying in Long Beach, the Water Department needs to be contacted and advised of home ownership changes. Final meter readings will be done and bills adjusted.

Long Beach collects $225 annually from each homeowner for trash and recycling collection. They need to be notified of all changes in ownership. If a seller has paid this bill in full, the amount will be prorated between the buyer and seller at closing so each is charged their fair amount.

All utilities and water pertaining to properties in the Michiana and Michigan areas should be handled similar to above. However, the companies are different.
